Volunteer Opportunties

One of the biggest investments you can make in our program is your time. We understand that volunteering can be challenging with all our busy schedules, but all RAAA Youth Sports programs cannot be successful without the help and support from our community. Your help is a major key to keeping our registration fees low, helping run our program, providing equipment, and keeping our fields in great shape.

As with past years, we are asking each family to help with fundraising activities by committing to at least one event per player. This requirement applies to families who have players in ages 9 through 14 (other age levels are welcome to volunteer if spots are not being filled). During tryouts, we will be collecting a volunteer deposit of $200/family which will be torn up upon satisfaction of the volunteer requirement within the dates noted below.  Checks will be deposited at the end of the season if volunteer requirements are NOT met.

Our Baseball Volunteer Calendar starts in November of the previous year and goes through October of this year. Any events you volunteer for during this time will count towards your requirements for the season.

We recommend that you reference the volunteer sign-up site listed on this page and watch for emails detailing opportunities as they become available.

In addition to signing up for volunteer events, families have the following options to meet their requirements:

Coaching
Though we have several opportunities to fulfill your volunteer hours, the most important one is signing up to Coach. We cannot stress enough how important coaches are to the success of our program, especially at the minor league levels, as we tend to have the most teams there. We have practice plans available, links to instruction videos and our Minor League Coordinator is available for any questions or guidance you may need. Therefore, we ask that you please consider this responsibility as one of our top priorities to fill for all ages levels.

Baseball Board Positions
The RAAA Baseball Board is the governing body for the RAAA Baseball Program.  It is the responsibility of the board to provide leadership and set the direction of the program.  It is currently comprised of 8 members fulfilling a variety of responsibilities, with descriptions of these roles located HERE.

If you are interested in helping shape our program, this is one of the best ways to make a difference.  Please reach out to one of the directors for more information.

MYAS State Basketball Tournament
Each year early in March, our RAAA Basketball players participate in their State Tournament. This is a significant fundraiser for all RAAA Sports, but also a great opportunity to help ensure a successful tournament. To help support this event, each RAAA Sport is allocated a number of volunteer spots to fill (around 30 spots) in order to collect their “fair share” of the proceeds. In addition, if your children are 12 years or older, I highly encourage them to help out as well and support our programs.

Baseball Evaluations
Each year, we conduct evaluations for ages 9 through 14 at the Rockford Community Center. During this event, we need parents to help out with registration and uniform sizing. This year, our evaluations are on March 16th from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will break our volunteer hours into three shifts of around two hours each as outlined below.

  • Registration Desk - TWO Volunteers each shift
    • 8:45 to 10 (4th and 5th Grades)
    • 10:45 to 12 (6th and 7th Grades)
    • NA (3rd and 8th Grades)
  • Group Chaperone - FOUR Volunteers each shift
    • 9:30 to 11 (4th and 5th Grades)
    • 11 to 12:30 (6th and 7th Grades)
    • NA (3rd and 8th Grades)

Baseball Field Maintenance
Bankwest Field continues to be one of the nicest fields to play at in our league. We love our community support and thank you so much for helping to keep this field and park in top-notch condition. At least once a year, we will get a group of parents together to perform necessary field maintenance to ensure our field continues to be the best in the league.  We also hold the same opportunity to help maintain/improve the Middle School fields.

Our Spring Maintenance event will occur in early May (TBD). Generally, we are looking for 15 volunteers to help out during the Spring and Fall times. Food and beverages will be provided for everyone. If the weather does not cooperate, the event will be rescheduled to another date.

Grey Campbell is our Bankwest field coordinator and oversees this opportunity. You can sign up here: TBD

Please contact Grey at greycampbell@raaasports.com if you have any questions.

Middle School Baseball Field Maintenance
Similar to our Bankwest Maintenance opportunity, we would like to take the same approach with our Middle School baseball fields which houses our 9U and up teams.

Our Spring Maintenance event will occur on TBD.  Generally, we are looking for 10 volunteers to help out during the Spring.  Food and beverage will be provided for everyone. If the weather does not cooperate, the event will be rescheduled to a later date.

Grey Campbell is our Bankwest field coordinator and oversees this opportunity as well. Please contact Grey at greycampbell@raaasports.com if you are interested in volunteering.

Riverside/Greenfield Baseball Field Maintenance
Similar to our Bankwest Maintenance opportunity, we would like to take the same approach with our Riverside and Greenfield baseball field which houses our T-Ball/Rookie/Machine Pitch teams.

Our Spring Maintenance event is TBD. Generally, we are looking for 10 volunteers to help out during the Spring and Fall times.  Food and beverage will be provided for everyone. If the weather does not cooperate, the event will be rescheduled to a later date. Our Fall Maintenance Event dates are currently TBD.
