16U Team Finishes 7th at NAFA Northern Nationals Tournament

The Crow River Revolution 16U softball team participated in the North American Fastpitch Association Northern Nationals Tournament held at the Rice Creek Fields in Shoreview, MN July 27-31. With a total of 56 teams participating in the tournament from all over the Midwest, the Rev went 3-2 in bracket play (4-4 overall), earning a them a 7th place finish in the Gold bracket.

The Rev got off to a slow start during pool play, losing 4-6 to the MN Stars and 5-7 to the MN Chaos. In both games, the Rev were able to mount comebacks that fell short. However, they were able to use the momentum from each game to win the last game in pool play 5-1 against the MN Moose Nelson.

Their 1-2 record in pool play resulted in a low seed (24) for the Rev in the Gold bracket, but they came out swinging in the first game of the bracket with a 10-1 win over the number 9 seeded MN Irish. Next, they faced the number 8 seed New Berlin Magic (WI), were they overcame a 2-3 deficit after the first inning to win 5-4 in a hard fought game.

The Rev then faced their biggest challenge of the tournament, facing the number 1 seed MN Moose Halverson. The Rev jumped out to a 3-0 after one, and continued to lead the game through the fourth inning, 5-3. But, the Moose posted 5 runs in the fifth inning, and held on to beat the Rev 5-8.

Facing elimination with their next lost, the Rev responded well in their next game against the MN Ice, earning an exciting 5-3 victory for their third win in bracket play. The Rev then faced the Bison Outlaws (IL) when their momentum stalled, losing 1-8 in their final game of the tournament.
