This weekend the Crow River Revolution Blue team traveled to Onalaska, WI and took 2nd in the Rumble on the River Tournament.

The bats were really working on Saturday in pool play as they beat the Rivals 15-1, the hosts the Mississippi Valley Pride 14-2, and the Wisconsin Xplozion 13-3. Pitchers Makayla Graunke and Chloe Hinz did a great job of pitching all weekend long and the defense made some great plays to keep runners off the bases and from scoring.

On Sunday in bracket play the Revolution met up again with the host team the Pride. We won 13-0. Bats were again hot for this game. We scored 4 in the 1st inning- 3 on Hannah Greeno’s homerun. We added 3 more in the 2nd. Shellie Virnig scored on Sara Byers double to left. Then Hannah Greeno hit her 2nd homerun of the game (3rd in the tournament). We added 1 more in the 3rd when Alix Gifford scored off Makayla Graunke’s single to left. 5 were scored in the 4th as Hess Huser, Byers, Greeno, Hinz and Khulyn Johnson each reached base safely and scored. Emma Miller had a sac fly in the inning and Graunke added 2 more RBIs on a hit to right.

Championship game rematch of the game with Wisconsin Xplozion. We lost 5-6. It was a great game with the lead changing back and forth and a good chance to win at the end. Their outfielder (especially their centerfielder) played fantastic and took away at least 4 hits from us. They scored 1 in the top of the 1st. We came right back and scored 2 in the bottom of the inning. Huser and Byers each were issued walks. Then Hannah Greeno just missed her 3rd homerun of the day hitting the bottom of the fence. Huser scored and Greeno ended up with a double. Byers scored on a passed ball. The 2nd inning was scoreless for both teams. They hit a 3 run homerun in the 3rd to take the lead. We added 2 runs in the 4th when Hinz and Johnson reached, moved up on a passed ball and then scored on Alix Gifford’s single to right. That tied up the game. They added another run in the 5th. We added 1 run in the bottom of the 6th Chloe Hinz scored on Gifford’s 2 out single. We were called on runners interference for the 3rd out of the inning, which would have had the bases loaded (if it were not called). They added 1 run in the top of the 7th. Hailey Enos lead off the inning with a single to right. Jess Huser added another hit for 2 runners on and 1 out. Sara Byers flew out for out 2 and Hannah Greeno flew out to the right fielder for the final out of the game.

CRR Blue had some great defensive plays that kept them from scoring more runs. In the 1st inning 2nd baseman, Jess Huser made a great diving stop of a ground ball hit by their very speedy slap hitter and was able to flip the ball to Hinz at 1st base. Later in the game, with a runner on 3, 3rd baseman Khulyn Johnson fielded the bunt and looked to throw to 1st. The 2nd baseman wasn’t covering, so she held up her throw and then then noticed the runner from 3 was way off the base. A run down was started between 3 and home. Byers applied the tag and then threw the ball to 3rd base where leftfielder Gifford had come in and they got the trail runner for the 3rd out of the 2nd inning. Gifford also had an amazing catch in centerfield that had her rolling to avoid the left fielder and was able to hold onto the ball. In the 6th inning, shortstop Emma Miller made a diving stop of a ball then then threw the runner out at 1st from her knees.
