Spring Training (Open Gyms):
Who should attend: Players Ages 9 (current year 3rd Grade) and Up
Each year starting in March, we offer several open gyms to help the players get ready for the evaluations that occur either in March or early in April. Though these open gyms are not mandatory, they provide a great preview of what they will encounter during evaluations. In addition, we also encourage the boys to find other ways to get ready for the baseball season.
Evaluations Overview:
The Crow River League we participate in offers two levels of competition: AA and A levels. Though the AA level is for more skilled players offering a higher degree of competition, both levels focus on player development and teaching core fundamentals as each child learns and grows at a different pace.
To properly place players at the right level, we need to evaluate them. This is important as our goal is to ensure players are being placed at a level that challenges and helps to improve their skills, but in the end, provides for the most enjoyable baseball experience. Please remember that each year is just one chapter in your ball player's book and that everyone develops and grows differently. Encourage your child to focus on the things they can control such as Attitude and Effort! Support them through it all and help them learn to appreciate the challenges and celebrate the successes! Everyone’s path to greatness is shaped differently and we want all our players to be proud of who they are!
Evaluations are a one-day event and players should make every attempt to attend this evaluation day, however, if you cannot attend, please contact the Baseball Director ASAP.
Please Note: Parents are not allowed in the gyms during tryouts.
Players will be evaluated based on the following using a 5-point scale. These evaluations will be conducted by independent evaluators from our High School program (except intangibles).
In addition, the player’s attitude and hustle can have a significant impact during evaluations.
All evaluations are confidential and only viewed by the baseball Director and Associate Director.
