When signing your child up to play baseball, it is important to understand their eligibility and ensure they are signed up for the right age level. Below are the guidelines:
Eligibility
RAAA Baseball is governed by the Minnesota Sports Federation (MSF) league, and as a result, players must reside or attend school in Minnesota. In addition, because our league is a community based league, players must participate on the team nearest to where they reside or attend school. Therefore:
- RAAA Baseball is primarily for players who live in Rockford and the surrounding communities (Corcoran, Greenfield) and/or who attend Rockford Schools or a private institution within the Rockford School District
- However, players who live in AND attend another school district that has their own corresponding Baseball Association, may still participate in RAAA but will not be eligible for a Traveling team
- Exception: If there are not enough players at a particular age level to field a AA team, that player may then be eligible for that AA team
- A waiver from the affected association will be required in these situations
Age Classification
- In general, the player’s age on April 30th of the current year determines their age classification. However, our league provides a one year exemption so players can play with their grade. Example:
- For a player who is 13 on April 30 but in 6th grade has the option to sign up for 13U/14U (generally 7th/8th grade classes) or for 12U (with their 6th grade class)
- We would highly recommend they play with their grade, so in this example, that would sign up for 12U
- If in doubt, sign them up with their grade
- Players MUST be signed up for their appropriate age level. Please do not sign them up for an "higher" level, this applies to ALL AGE Levels (Tball through 14U). Examples:
- If a player is 12 years old on April 30th and in 6th grade, you must sign them up for 12U. Do NOT sign them up for 13/14U
- If a player is 7 years old and in 1st grade, they must sign up for Rookie Ball. Do NOT sign them up for Machine Pitch (which is for 2nd grade or 8 year olds)
- This is important when trying to form teams and ensuring we have enough kids at the various age levels
Any decisions to move players out of there assigned age level/classification will be done by the Baseball Board based on extenuating circumstances.
